I Almost Abandoned a Crying Baby at the Zoo

But I sold her on Facebook Marketplace instead

As a mom of two toddlers, I find myself saying “no” a lot.

No, I won’t change your name to Cantaloupe and hand-feed you Easter Peeps all day.

No, you don’t get an M&M for pooping on the couch just because it wasn’t in a diaper — I worry I may have explained the potty training concept incorrectly.

No, you can’t walk up to strangers and demand to see their clavicles.

So when Kelsey insisted on inviting her friend, Annabel, to the zoo for her 2nd birthday party, I knew I couldn’t say no. I also knew it meant I’d be taking care of someone else’s baby the entire day, even if Annabel’s mom joined us on the trip.

Whenever Annabel is around, her slacker mom has a habit of dropping her in my lap and wandering off. I was correct in assuming this trip would be no different.

From the moment we arrived at the zoo, things started going downhill. For starters, it was cold out and Annabel didn’t have a coat. While Annabel’s mom was unconcerned about the frigid temperature, my oldest daughter was worried about the poor baby and demanded I wrap her in paper towels from the restroom.
