This story made me emotional. I went through very similar struggles as your daughter did (I also went to a private college in Upstate NY althought waaay before she did, and I also nannied for years after!).

I was in a deep depression all through college and had no idea what I wanted to do with my life but I stuck it out because it was expected of me.

I do not think it was for the best. I will not make the same mistake with my own children. Your children are lucky to have you. This was beautifully written. Thank you for sharing.
